Project Overview.

1.Name of Project

 

“UPGRADATION OF BALOCHISTAN AGRICULTURE COLLEGE INTO UNIVERSITY AT QUETTA.”

 

2.Location

 

The Project is located at a distance of 22 KM from GPO Quetta towards South-West in Aghberg Area, District Quetta.

A State land measuring 200 acres has been allotted to Agriculture Department Government of Balochistan in favor of construction of Agriculture University.

 

3.Estimated Cost

 

Rs. 4589 Million.

 

 

4.Sponsoring

 

 

Government of Balochistan.

The scheme has been included in Public Sector Development Programme.

(PSDP Sr. # 1532, Project ID No.  Z 2013.0072.)

The PC-1 of the Project stand approved. The bidding process has been completed.

 

5.Executing

 

Project Management Unit, Agriculture and Cooperatives Department.

The EA Consultant (Pvt) Karachi JV The Building Consultants has been assigned the special task to assist the PMU for implementation of this assignment.

 

6.Project Duration

 

36 Months.

 

 

7.Project Objective

 

The Agriculture is main stay of our country economy. About 70% of the rural population is directly or indirectly dependent for their livelihood upon Agriculture sector.

The Agriculture College Quetta was established in 1987 to impart professional education in the Agriculture sector. However, the only Agriculture College is not sufficient to produce the number and kind of qualified scientists required for development of the Agriculture sector of Balochistan. It is, therefore, proposed to upgrade the existing Balochistan Agriculture College as University of Agriculture to train manpower required for evolving new technologies for improving productivity of crops and livestock.

The Balochistan Agriculture University will help in overcoming shortage of qualified scientist to the field of Agriculture including Livestock and Fishers.The objectives can be meet through;

  • Educating and producing graduates and post graduates in Agriculture, Veterinary, Agriculture Engineering, Environmental Science, Forestry, Wild life and Range Management.

  • Exploring the Technology developed by the University to other similar areas in and around the country.

  • Conducting problem oriented research in the areas of regional Agriculture Animal Health and Husbandry, Irrigation, Farm Machinery, Social Sciences, Forestry, Wild Life and Range Management.

  • Disseminating packages of Technology to the end users through strong linkage of teaching, research and extension services.
